THE EVOLUTION OF TENTS

To incorporate tent structure into my design I started studding its structure as well as its foundation. Which will gives me more clarification on how and what designs I can aim at.

Originally made from goat and CAMEL hair, the Bedouin tents we now know and love have certainly changed a lot from their humble origins.

Going way back to when they were first created, Bedouin tents were used for very practical reasons, and highly different to how we use them now. The tents were used for shelter in the Middle East, with sides that could be altered to suit differing needs, and, interestingly, the height of the tent suggested the wealth of its owner.

Originally, one HALF of the tent would be used to help protect the women whilst they cooked, and the other half was used only for men to sit and relax, enjoying each other’s company.

Being adaptable to all seasons is something our more modern tents are still great for – as you can see from our previous blog about winter parties – and tents can still be a great venue for hosting an event. Although, now we are lucky enough to be able to use various forms of electric heaters to keep our guests warm, and it’s certainly COLDER here in the UK than it is in the Middle East.
Having made their way overseas – popular due to their versatility and durability – tents have evolved in both style and substance. The construction of these tents has certainly changed, with the use of goat and camel hair being a thing of the past for MODERN day tents.

This change in materials and being no longer restricted to the colour of the ANIMAL fur used to make them, the tents can now be made in various different colours, and also produced on a mass scale. With lighting features incorporated into designs and different materials available to dress the tents they certainly are more advanced now than they were when they began.
But some original materials and features have continued to be used, and we have dressed many Moroccan themed parties with tents using TRADITIONAL drapes, carpets, and tribal accessories.

The ways in which the tents are used have certainly stayed very similar to when they were first created. In recent years, Bedouin tents are popularly used for both men and women to entertain in, with a wide range of events taking place in them, from weddings and christenings to birthdays… the tents are certainly adaptable and VERSATILE.

DESIGN IMPRESSION

For my outdoor location of engagement area is now been final now i am working on its design. As it’s an outdoor location and I am planning for function to take place in evening time so as it will have light effect of both natural lights for some part of function and later artificial lighting will take over at later end part.

Outdoor weddings are big this year. Even if you’re not having the popular ‘festival style’ and are going down the traditional marquee route, you can break away from conventional looking ones and get CREATIVE, giving your reception a whole new feel. These days there is a huge choice of different styles depending on your taste, from rustic and relaxed to elegant and chic.

As far as design is concern i have taken influence of circus tent to design it accepts.which are typically known as marquees.

The Bollywood Roots of Indian-American Weddings

When Hindu author Kavita Ramdya fell in love with a Muslim man, a bi-religious wedding was not all that followed. Ramdya’s BOOK, “Bollywood Weddings: Dating, Engagement and Marriage in Hindu America” just hit bookstore shelves. Since she had a wedding that incorporated not only Hindu but also Muslim and Western traditions (she had a ceremony in a flowing white gown), Ramdya was inspired to find out why having a traditional Hindu wedding is so important for her young Hindu friends in the States–especially when those traditions aren’t necessarily historical, they’re cinematic.
Ramdya found that Bollywood –with its glitzy dance sequences and soap-opera-like plots–is the most mainstream form of media that Indian-American Hindus have to draw from in educating themselves about India and the culture and the traditions that are important to their parents. That is why Bollywood films are so influential in how young Hindus in AMERICA conceive of India, its culture and rituals like the Hindu wedding ceremony.
Walk into most Indian weddings in the U.S. today and you’ll find at least 400 people dressed in Bombay’s sexiest sari fashions, a great number of flowers to COVER the mandap (or the place where the ceremony happens), at least one giant ice sculpture shaped to look like a Hindu God and–in a favorite practice–the groom entering the area on a white horse, all his friends and family in tow.

In certain parts of India, there is a tradition of a groom from a neighboring VILLAGEriding to the bride’s house on a horse. But this tradition is fairly outdated, and Bollywood has revived it to evoke images of Prince Charming and Cinderella. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a little showmanship in weddings.

Everyone wants a big fat Bollywood wedding

Some want a beach wedding like in Salaam NAMASTE, some prefer a farmhouse gala a la Hum Tum, while others prefer a decor similar to the one in Band Baaja Baaraat. The glitzy and jazzy wedding set-ups in Bollywood movies are becoming a fad in real life, giving a filmy twist to the country's approximately $30 billion wedding market.

"Hindi films have been a major influence on the common man," Nandita Sharma of BollywoodShaadis.com said.

"Bollywood always has an influence on people's mind in terms of weddings. People see a movie with a wedding sequence and they immediately decide the wedding trousseau, decoration and invites accordingly," Nandita Sharma said.

The trend started with movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho. Recent flicks like Tanu Weds Manu and Band Baaja Baraat took it forward.

If people love taking inspiration from films, they also add a personal touch to it.
"Nowadays, people are more pro towards adding that 'personal touch' to their wedding decor. That's the reason why their creativity overflows in terms of wedding sets. People want exotic fruits, flowers, show pieces, lights, candles, props, cloth being used for their wedding stage," said Nandita Sharma.

The most preferred Bollywood style has been Arshad Warsi's beach wedding in Salaam NAMASTE or the depiction of Las Vegas in Kites.

The personal touch comes when people choose to do up the wedding space in subtle colours. Even though Bollywood uses bright colours, people off the screen prefer a minimalist, simpler look.
"People today prefer simple colour schemes over any traditional theme. They look for subtle colours over BOLD and solid ones. They also opt for different colour themes in all their different functions. For instance, a whole marigold-coloured theme for a mehendi function partnered with a village-like personification of the venue or a complete blue or aqua theme on the cocktail night," said Mukta Kapoor, director, Yuna Weddings.

Plan to go ahead with such ostentatious ideas, expect to burn a hole anywhere between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 5 crore in your pocket. But fret not, even if you have a smaller budget. it's not too tough to get a customised wedding set-up.

my location for outdoors

A dream wedding is all about grandeur. Lavish spreads, beautiful decorations, floral designs and the list is endless. You want your wedding to be a royal affair and something that stays on the memories forever. Enough of those wedding in hotel banquets and walled halls, it’s time to have a wedding the Glamorous style. We all have seen or experienced those big fat Indian weddings and always dreamt of having our wedding done the same way.

The Wedding Lawns is a deluxe party plot constructed with the elements of Bali architecture that gives you a heritage feel where you can indulge in royal celebrations. A panoramic terrain blanketed with lush green lawns will work wonders for your eyes.  The royalty and the heritage feel will leave you mesmerized.

Experience a whole new level of wedding extravaganza. A perfect destination for a beautiful wedding. It is often said that designing is akin to celebrating.

Inspired by the rural wedding setup, the design is based on the concept of the customary courtyard space called ‘wadi’. Right from the onset, the design process has been about imparting varied experiences! Beginning at the entry, with the well-planted travellers’ palm creating an appealing and soothing welcome, the design dwells into crafting traditional elements like ‘dellu’ (a notable character at Gujarati weddings), water bodies and series of courtyards.Building courtyards within courtyards, has not only resonated with the idea of a wadi, but has also aesthetically resolved the architect’s conscious attempt to create seclusion. Consequently, the final designed space depicts great intensity and leisurely appeal, befitting the aura of a ceremonial occasion, cutting one off from the outer world, though temporarily. Enhancing this is the remarkably high surrounding compound wall that reinstates the experience holistically.

As widespread as approx. 8000 sq. yards, this large urban space is a blend between traditional and modern expressions. While the main entrance gate is a contemporary design, the jallis (trellis) used at the entrance are enthused from pol house windows. This predefined juxtaposition is further seen in the architecture, lighting design, furniture pieces and other elements.

why fairy tale theme ???

Do you like fairies? Plan your marriage celebration around this charming fairy theme wedding idea. Do you love magic and mystery? Want an outdoor wedding surrounded by flowers and birds? Wouldn't you like to be transported to an enchanted land on your wedding day?
I think the ideal place to have a fairy theme wedding is outdoors.
A venue with a big garden, a butterfly sanctuary, a botanical garden or even your backyard will be perfect.
As this is a garden wedding, you could use pinks, lavenders and white. To accentuate these colors, you can add a touch of silver or gold. Timeless pieces can make a wedding classic yet fresh and modern, and not too” theme-y”. Think old leather, heavy damask textures, pinstripes and ribbon. You should also have stunning photography, a dramatic lighting and shadows, a vintage-y location, everything should be classic!

For a fairy tale wedding i have picked Cinderella as my design theme.
Now the question is Why Cinderella?
Yes, wedding day is the most important day in a couple lives. It’s the day for which every girl is planning form a long long time. I am sure all girls have been grown up listening to this fairy tale and dreaming of the ultimate day when there prince charming would come and take them off. Also Disney movie has a great influence of all this tale of majority of people.

My selection of Cinderella tale is mainly because it’s the most popular story all around the globe, almost everyone knows about it. Also not make this fairy tale thing look childish this story give it a Victorian touch which will help in designing of wedding a more elegant way.

my wedding theme and its design criteria

Starting from exploration and understanding, I have designed myself an vicinity and particular theme in which I will be crafty all wedding functions.
Beginning from survey analyses and popularity among people of India I have come to conclusion for designing a weeding with 2 different aspect, which are  a fairy tale touch with a Victorian look and another would be a designed development form day to day or some unique things which has never been used for a wedding décor.

No of wedding functions to be designed
  •       Ring ceremony
  •         Pithi ceremony
  •         Mendhi (hena application)
  •         Sangeet sandhya (musical night)
  •         Wedding
  •        Reception

All of these six functions I would be designed one as an outdoor set up and another indoor setup. With two eccentric design theme.
As for outdoor I will be trying and designing it using different and distinct materials that are never been used before for wedding décor and also using natural lighting as one of design elements.

For an interior set up I will be focusing on artificial lighting and giving it a look of Victorian era.
